Kids Tag Art Pinellas Awards Ceremony this Thursday, January 26, 2017, at the St. Petersburg College Clearwater Arts Auditorium

More than 100 fifth-grade students will be honored for their artistic abilities

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, JANUARY 24, 2017 – Charles W. Thomas, Pinellas County Tax Collector, is pleased to announce that more than 100 fifth-grade art students will be honored at the second annual Kids Tag Art Pinellas Awards Ceremony this Thursday, January 26, 2017, at the St. Petersburg College Clearwater Arts Auditorium, 2465 Drew Street, Clearwater, 33765, at 6 p.m.

Elementary art students in 42 Pinellas County Schools created their own unique vanity tags that anyone can purchase online for $15 + $3.50 shipping and handling for the front of their vehicles. All funds raised from sponsorships and tag sales directly support arts education in Pinellas County. One dollar from the sale of each tag benefits the St. Petersburg College Foundation’s “I AM 4 ART, U CAN B 2” Scholarship Fund. Remaining proceeds from tag sales, and community sponsorships are given to the Pinellas County Schools Visual Arts Department to be used exclusively as supplement funding for art enrichment programs and supplies for participating schools. To date, $45,500 has been received from community partners, which has allowed for each participating class to receive $800 to use for arts education. In addition, each class will receive the profits from the sale of their tags.

Three winners from each school were chosen by a panel of judges and will be honored this Thursday. All of the unique vanity plates are on sale at kidstagartpinellas.org.

Kids Tag Art Pinellas is a community partnership program that brings businesses, students, families, government, and the public school system together to increase awareness about the importance of arts in our community. It is an elementary art curriculum that teaches children how art is used in commerce while raising needed funds to support arts education throughout Pinellas County.

“Children need opportunities to expand their creative horizons,” said Pinellas County Tax Collector Charles W. Thomas. “Kids Tag Art Pinellas provides a program to teach children about the importance of art in our community and to show them the possibility of pursuing art as a career.”

“Art education helps Pinellas County Schools students become more confident and more understanding of the world around them. Kids Tag Art Pinellas will help to foster the creativity of our students while enabling the school district to provide more resources for our art education programs in classrooms,” said Michael A. Grego, Ed.D., Pinellas County Schools Superintendent.
