08/15/14: Lower cost vehicle registrations being mailed Monday

Lower cost vehicle registrations being mailed Monday
In an effort to save residents money, the Pinellas County Tax Collector is waiting to mail September registration renewals until Monday, August 18th

CLEARWATER, FL, FRIDAY, AUGUST 15, 2014 – Residents visiting the Pinellas County Tax Collector’s Office to renew their vehicle registration after September 1st may be pleasantly surprised. The legislature passed Senate Bill 156, which lowers the cost of motor vehicle registration fees for Florida residents beginning September 1st. It is estimated that Florida vehicle owners will save approximately $400 million a year.

In a proactive effort Diane Nelson, Pinellas County Tax Collector, is mailing September renewals later than normal to reduce confusion and help residents take advantage of the new lower fees. She wants to give residents every opportunity to take advantage of the savings this legislation offers. She said, “I would be disheartened if someone with a September renewal accidentally renewed their vehicle registration before the 1st and missed out on the opportunity to save money because they were not informed of the new fee structure.”

All September renewals will be mailed out Monday, August 18th and will include an informational insert about the reduced fee structure. Residents will be able to renew their registrations at the new lower rates beginning Monday, September 1st, online and Tuesday, September 2nd, in branch offices. Tax Collector offices will be closed Monday, September 1st in observance of Labor Day. However, residents are encouraged to renew online at taxcollect.com, where they may print a renewal confirmation receipt.
