Birth Certificates

The Pinellas County Tax Collector has partnered with the Florida Department of Health, Office of Vital Statistics to issue certified copies of Florida birth certificates to eligible individuals. With two locations offering this service, residents needing their birth certificate to obtain a driver license or identification card will now be able to complete both transactions at the same office.

There will be an additional $6.25 administrative fee for Florida birth certificates issued at the Tax Collector offices.

Locations

Florida birth certificates are issued at:

North County Office: 29399 US Highway 19 North, Suite 100, Clearwater, FL 33761

South County Office: 1800 66th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33710

Obtaining a Florida Birth Certificate:

Step 1: Picture ID

If you are applying for a copy of your or your child’s Florida birth certificate, you must bring your valid and current picture identification (ID). Acceptable forms of picture ID include:

  1. Driver’s License
  2. State Identification Card
  3. Passport
  4. Military Identification Card

Step 2: Eligibility

Determine your eligibility (relationship) to receive a Florida birth certificate. You must meet one (1) of the following criteria:

  1. Be the child named on the Florida birth certificate AND 18 years of age or older, or
  2. Be the parent of the person named on the Florida birth certificate.

Step 3: Certificate Holder Information

Be prepared to provide information about the person named on the Florida birth certificate:

  1. Full name of person at birth and any subsequent legal name changes
  2. Date of birth
  3. City or county of birth
  4. Mother’s full name including her maiden surname
  5. Father’s full name (if his name is on the record)

Step 4: Applicant Information

Be prepared to provide information about the person obtaining the Florida birth certificate:

  1. Full name
  2. Relationship to person named on the certificate (father, mother, self, etc.)
  3. Mailing address (include city, state and zip code)
  4. Daytime phone number

Step 5: Application for Florida Birth Record

You will fill out the Application for a Florida Birth Record in person at our office.

Reminder: If applicant is self, the applicant must complete this application and provide valid photo identification. Acceptable forms of identification are the following: Driver’s License, State Identification Card, Passport, and/or Military Identification Card.

Florida Birth Certificate Fees

Certified Computer Certificate: $19.25 ($13.00 Florida Department of Health Birth Certificate Fee + $6.25 Pinellas County Tax Collector Administrative Fee). Each additional copy is $8.00.

  • Available for all Florida births 1917 to present
  • Computer generated copy of the original record
  • Accepted as legal proof of birth and citizenship

Payment Information

Checks, cash, money orders, Visa, MasterCard or Discover are acceptable forms of payment. Current and valid photo ID is required. Acceptable forms of ID are Driver’s License, State Identification Card, Passport and/or Military Identification Card.

Please note that a convenience fee will apply for all credit and debit card payments. This fee is 2.95% of the transaction total with a minimum of $2.50 and is charged by our third-party payment processor, Grant Street Group.

Florida birth certificates may still be obtained through the Florida Department of Health.
